Impact of closures or mergers of education institutions on equity of access.
Due to declining birth rates and shifting demographics in various subzones of Singapore, the Ministry of Education has planned to merge some primary schools together to better cater to demand for schools. In 2019, Singapore had 191 primary schools and the merging of 7 pairs of schools was announced. Between 2022 to 2025, 4 more pairs of schools will be merging. This will bring the number of primary schools to 180.
